Goedhart signs European manifesto for more sustainable flour and flour
On June 5, 2025, Goedhart Brood & Specialities, together with other leading European bakeries, millers, cooperatives and suppliers, signed the Sustainable Wheat Initiative Europe manifesto. In doing so, we commit to a shared ambition: a 30% reduction in wheat and flour emissions by 2030.
Flour is the basis of all our products — and that's where we want to make a sustainable difference. By joining this initiative, we are contributing to a strong, collective movement in the European bakery sector towards more sustainable raw materials and chains. We look forward to further implementing this together with our chain partners. For today's farmers, for tomorrow's bakers — and for everyone who loves good bread.
As a family business, we feel the responsibility to leave a livable world behind for future generations as well.

By signing the manifesto, together with our chain partners, we are taking an important step towards more sustainably produced flour and flour. This is how we are building a strong, future-proof bakery chain,” says Janet Borgesius.
Building sustainable value chains together
The Sustainable Wheat Initiative Europe manifesto was launched at a two-day symposium in Utrecht, initiated by the Industrial Bakers Association (AIBI). The shared roadmap focuses on reducing CO₂ emissions in the grain chain, with the first milestone being a 30% reduction per kilogram of wheat or flour by 2030 (compared to 2022). In addition, the emphasis is on cooperation: from field to oven.
And that is necessary. More than 80% of the emissions in the wheat chain take place on the farmer's land. As industrial bakers, we can only reduce those emissions by working more closely with growers, millers, transporters and technological partners. The manifesto offers guidance, shared goals and practical guidelines for jointly growing towards climate-friendly chains.
Goedhart contributes to the future
As bakers, we know how important good ingredients are. Not only for the taste and quality of our bread, but also for the future of our planet. By signing the manifesto, we are taking a step forward in our own sustainability journey. Not only do we want to bake bread that is nutritious and delicious, but also produced fairly and with respect for the earth.
