Baking for the Next Generation

As a true bakery family, Goedhart passes on the passion for bread and pastry from father to son, mother to daughter. It's all about taste, quality and the way of baking: with care, attention and respect for the environment. At Goedhart, we take sustainability seriously. It is a spearhead in everything we do. We work according to the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTI) and have our own CO2 roadmap to minimize our impact. We reduce food waste with smart ordering systems, reuse waste streams for animal feed and reduce plastic in our packaging. This is how we take steps towards a CO2-neutral operation every day.

Sustainable transport

Every day, Bakker Goedhart delivers bread and pastries to more than 2,000 supermarkets throughout the Netherlands. We do that transport almost entirely with our own people and cars. A conscious choice. Our drivers are our calling card. They know the customers and are involved. That is worth gold.
We are investing in hybrid and electric trucks, such as the Scania G320 Plug-in Hybrid and Volvo FM Electrics, to distribute our products in an environmentally friendly way. Right now, we have 10 of these quieter and more sustainable trucks on the road.

Responsible raw materials

Honest ingredients

All our raw materials are traceable and we comply with high quality standards such as BRC, IFS and GMP+. Our customers receive detailed information about product origin and quality.

We use Fair Trade cocoa and Rainforest Alliance certified chocolate in our pastry products. These labels guarantee fair trade and environmentally friendly production. Our strawberries come from farmers in the neighborhood. When it comes to grain, we stimulate sustainable cultivation through regenerative agriculture. That is why Bakker Goedhart signed the Sustainable Wheat Manifesto.

Inclusiveness and sustainable employability

People at the center

Bakker Goedhart employs people from all over the world: 47 nationalities in total. Many refugees also find a warm place to work in our bakeries. In our bakeries, we explicitly offer space for people with a distance from the labor market and for neuro-diversity.

Training and sustainable employability

As a family business, we invest our people. Many of our employees have grown internally, and we offer internal training and knowledge development at every level. In addition, we invest in tools that make work in the bakery safer and less physically demanding.

Prevent waste

At Bakker Goedhart, we do everything we can to prevent waste. That starts with smart production. Thanks to our advanced ordering system (GBS), retailers know exactly what quantities they need. What comes back anyway, we introduce back into the chain as animal feed. This resulted in additional savings of 237 tons of CO₂ in the past year.

Too much bread produced from our bakeries finds its way to households via the bread packages on Too Good To Go. For example, we have already saved 18.3 tons of CO₂ emissions. Three times a week, bread is also picked up by the Food Bank at many of our bakeries.

During the annual Waste Free Week, we reinforce our efforts and inspire others to do the same.

Sustainable packaging

Less plastic, better cardboard

Although packaging only accounts for a small part of our footprint, we are committed to reducing it. Through the use of thinner bags/foils, we have already 200,000 kg less plastic used. All our cardboard is FSC certified. We are investigating alternatives such as mono-material (recyclable) for current cardboard bread bags and closing clips.
