From temporary worker to baker: success story from our bakery
Syrian Hassan had to flee his country and ended up in the Netherlands. He wanted nothing more than to get to work quickly - to participate in society. In our bakery, he got that opportunity. And he grabbed it with both hands. This is his success story.
Hassan started with a three-month bakery course via Het Ambacht and was then able to start working in our bakery right away. After an internship and temporary work, he is now employed permanently for four days a week. Much to his delight and that of his colleagues and team leader: “Like Hassan, I want a few more! After all, we are always looking for bakers.”
Dare and trust
What is the secret to Hassan's success? Perseverance, courage and trust, thinks the brand new baker: “Don't wait and don't be afraid. For me, for example, the language is very difficult. I didn't understand everything right away at first, but it will be fine, always. If you're open to learning new things, it already becomes a lot easier.” He had that confidence and he got it in our bakery. Because there is always room for enthusiastic bakers in our bakeries, even if they have yet to learn the language.
Cosy team
Although Hassan loves patisserie, he enjoys it in the modern bread bakery. “This is more process-based work, but I have no problem with that. Moreover, I like it here and I have very nice colleagues and a nice team leader. Really!”
Career opportunities for everyone
The happy baker also has ambitions: “I always tell my team leader that I want his job. I always joke about it, but I want to do that in the future. I don't want to stand still, I want to keep going.” This is also possible within our bakeries. Precisely because we are a big baker, a lot is possible in terms of further training and career advancement. In addition, you have clear agreements, you know what the working hours are and you fall under the Bakkers collective labor agreement.
