Whizzing across the road — Leo enjoys electric tractor

Every day, Bakker Goedhart bakes a variety of bakery products at ten locations in the Netherlands. And they are then delivered to more than 1,000 supermarkets throughout the Netherlands with modern trucks by a team of enthusiastic drivers. Like Leo Ravensbergen, who drives one of Bakker Goedhart's Volvo FM Electrics.

The distribution trips mainly go to shopping centers in inner cities, which is where silent and sustainable driving is a must. That is why more and more of Bakker Goedhart's trucks are hybrids and ten electric Volvo FM Electrics have been ordered. Two of them are already on the road. Leo Ravensbergen is one of our proud drivers. “Enjoy”, he calls driving the brand new electric truck. “That whizzing across the road, I love it. It is agile and very direct with the accelerator. So you can take a break, that's really an advantage of electric driving. No fits and starts, you'll whizz away in no time.”

Electric driving requires a different mindset

It took some getting used to. “Not the driving itself, but your mindset needs to change. You really need to find out what that car can do, how far you can get with a full battery and how your driving style influences it. How do you handle your right foot?” Leo can make it through the 300 kilometers on a full battery. “But you have to drive that consciously, so roll it out, regenerate, etc.”

Getting used to and figuring out

Of course, when you start in a new car, you sometimes have some start-up problems that sometimes make you work a little longer as a driver. Is that bad? “It takes getting used to it and figuring it out, I think that's incredibly beautiful. If extra things are added, if you have to go to the garage, that's really no problem. It's actually appreciated and I can just write those hours. “He calls every night with his colleague who also drives the Volvo. “How customers are doing, when a road is closed, what you've discovered in the car settings. And you can track how economically you drive in an app. I'll always let you know if I score better,” Leo laughs.

“I've been working there for a year and a half and I'm in the latest car, isn't that great?”

Freedom and trust

A great honor, Leo thinks it is to drive this truck. “I've been working there for a year and a half and I'm in the latest car, isn't that great? You get a lot of trust, it's not nothing they outsource.” He is also happy with the freedom and appreciation he gets from Bakker Goedhart. “If it's more practical to change two customers, you can just do that.”

Relaxed work

Riding for Bakker Goedhart is fun, says Leo. “At night, you can drive on in a relaxed way, you're not bothered by other traffic. And for a small contribution, you can bring home fresh bread every day.” Another advantage: bread is light, so loading and unloading is not hard work. “And of course, the extra surcharges are also nice.”
